THE state’s Green Journalism Award returns this year with an additional contest for people outside the media industry to show their love for the environment.

The ‘Green Penang, Green My Life’ Video Contest 2012 is open to all Malaysians residing in the country.

It offers cash prizes worth RM2,000 for the winners in each of the three categories — Best Production Award, Best Sound and Music Award and Most Inspiring Award.

The videos should not exceed three minutes and must address the environmental theme of the contest.

Penang Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Com-mittee chairman Phee Boon Poh said that the contest was held in line with the state’s efforts to make Penang a greener place.

“Since we received encou- raging response for the Green Journalism Award last year, a new contest has been added to allow more people to take part,” he told reporters at a press conference in Komtar.

The Green Journalism Award is divided into four language categories — Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin and Tamil.

Each of the language categories is split into two smaller cate-gories — newsreports and features, with the winners of the categories receiving RM1,000 and RM1,200 respectively.

The deadline for the submission of entries is April 30.

The contest is organised by the state government, Penang Green Council, Han Chiang College, KDU College and Two Studio.
