Kuantan: Four people were arrested during a protest held over the Lynas rare earth refinery here.

A crowd of about 100 had gathered at Jalan Beserah for the DAP-organised protest before Kuantan district police chief ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff ordered them to disperse.

DAP Socialist Youth chief Anthony Loke and Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching, who led the demonstration, abided by the directive but four of the protesters chose to lie down on a banner that had a radioactive symbol.

They included Pahang DAP executive secretary Chow Yu Hui, 28, and Kuantan DAP Socialist Youth chief Lee Chin Chen, 27.

The others were Thing Siew Shuen, 32, an environmental aide to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Khor Hui Ying, 26, who writes for the DAP newsletter Rocket.

ACP Mohd Jasmani said there was no permit for the gathering. The four were released after having their statements recorded.
