-The Star- KEDAH has declared every Friday and Saturday as “no plastics day’ starting this month.

And the drive will not be confined to only shopping complexes but also morning and night markets in the city.

Alor Star City Council secretary Mohd Yusri Daud said the people would have to bring their own bags to shop on Fridays and Saturdays.

“We have sent letters to all shopping complex managements informing them about the campaign.

“We hope they will support it,” he told newsmen.

He said the council had also started distributing leaflets to inform traders and customers at morning and night markets.

The campaign will be launched at Alor Setar Mall on Oct 30.

Mohd Yusri said plastic bags were among the major con- tributors to clogged drains in the city which caused flash floods.
