-NST- KUANTAN: Air pollution did not result in some residents being afflicted with skin ailments in the Raub district, the state assembly was told Monday.

Twenty-four of the 65 people who registered as having skin problems, were instead, found to have been suffering from skin allergies caused by hot weather, humidity, unsuitable soap or shower gel.

These were the findings of a senior consultant dermatologist who was sent to the Raub Hospital on May 27, to check on their ailments, said state local government, environment and health committee chairman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun.
He said the rest were identified as having fungus and other skin ailments, adding that there was no report of chemical poisoning.

Hoh said this in reply to a question from Choong Siew Onn (DAP-Tras) who asked whether air pollution had caused skin ailments to some residents.

Subsequently, Choong asked whether the state government planned to conduct a more detailed study by testing the blood samples of those affected.
Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob interrupted by saying the Opposition was trying to confuse residents by linking the incident to a gold mining area in Bukit Koman, Raub.
