Applause to the DPM for his concerned on the environment. However, it is hoped that deforestation is not the only topic he thinks of when environment is involved.

Solid waste is also a major concern in Malaysia and it also contributes to the environment just as much. There have been numerous news on dumping and even landslides of wastes at dumpsites. Let's hope the DPM will also seriously consider this topic and let's have the tax payer's money spent worth while. As of now, the newly established Jabatan Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal Negara and Perbadanan Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal dan Pembersihan Awam has yet to show any actions or even been highlighted in any of the daily news. It is simply a sight of filling up vacancies without any job responsibilities.

In everyday news, Government is banking on sustainable technologies. However, has one consider how does a sewage treatment plant (STP) be a sustainable technology?

To operate a stand alone centralized sewage treatment plant (CSTP) with this size will definitely require a surging high amount of electricity to operate which will cost easily over tens of millions of ringgit a year. Will the State Government able to sustain the yearly operating costs just on the electricity bill? Will the Federal Government allocate high or have the fund for a high budget to the State Government?

When the State Government fails to keep it running, environmental problems again start to rise and the entire system again turns into another white elephant. Again, developers or contractors to take blame.

It's been a common scenario in Peninsular as STPs has evolved more than two decades. Even with the concessionaire charging a monthly fare yet it is unable to manage all the STPs in terms of operation and maintenance. Hence, there has been many reports of the real culprit behind the river pollution.

Of course Malaysia can afford not to use nuclear. There are still so many forms of renewable energy source which can be tapped i.e solar, wind and solid waste.

In fact Malaysia should not even consider nuclear because nuclear technology is not any typical Form 4 or Form 5 Science. It will require a lot of expertise in different field to monitor the technology. Yes although technologies have advanced so fast throughout these years where any Tom, Dick and Harry can operate but in case of any emergencies or accidents occurred, who is to handle these situations? Local engineers? I bet you and I would have the same thought, "can or not?" And we are talking about nuclear right now. In case of this emergencies or accidents, it's radiation we are talking about and people are at risks. Well, as a citizen I guess an opinion is just an opinion. Personal interest through politics will always remain as the only channel whether such mega projects will or will not take off.

Sarawak should learn to conserve its 1.5 million hectares of peat swamp forests instead of skinning it for oil palm plantations. clearing of peat swampy area for plantation will cause the release of immeasurable tons of CO2 into the atmosphere....not good for our lungs & environment..Climate change + global warming.

Your post on global warming makes me think you might be interested in the post and comments on international governance (i.e., expanding the multi-level governance) regarding pollution limits.
